hi puffins! this time, i'm gonna answer 79 questions about myself! they were answered from September 14 to September 18. hope you find this interesting! be aware this entry is the longest ever written in my blog. please, if you want to read this fully, reserve about 20 minutes. the song recommendations for today are... *drum roll*
These verses really hit me... So many people (including me, when with certain people) stop having the pride and joy in just being their weird selves to meet society's standards, and I wish it wasn't like that. I wish it was *that* easy to remain true to ourselves instead of covering up ourselves with a false persona to please people. I surely hope my future self still embraces my inner child, and that he'd also embrace everything that makes Miguel be Miguel (Miguel is my real name.)
What is your favourite food, and why does it hold a special place in your heart?
Melon really holds a special place in my heart. I love melon, it's like a spirit fruit, and the municipality of the rural town my grandma and dad live in is known for its special variety and characteristics. My grandma serves me melon every summer, and "melon" used to be code name for an ex-crush of mine. Warning for you: if you associate a food or thing with a person, you will be reminded of them when that thing is close. know that!
What was your first job, and what valuable lesson did you learn from it?
I never had a job per se, but i've been going to school since i'm 6 years old. I will consider it a job for this question. Well, i've learned that people aren't always what they seem, and that we must have courage and confidence during adversities instead of letting stuff happen. Conforming to not doing anything about a frequent problem won't solve it, but trying to tackle that problem (such as discrimination) is a reward in itself. Also, matching everyone's likings, doings and pleasantries and is easy but not true to who you are, please be you. I'm sure you'll feel better being you in your own skin.
Do you have a hidden talent that surprises people when they find out?
People tend to be surprised when they find out that my phone's language is set to Japanese and i understand it all. For me, it's easy peasy, because i'm used to it, but studying Japanese since 2023 is ultimately which led me to the state i'm in. Japanese is a language i will never give up on learning, and i wonder how many doors are waiting for me.
What is your favorite book, and how has it influenced your life?
That's a hard question. I don't have a single favourite book, but i can confidently say "Heartstopper" is my favourite book series EVER! I like to say Nick Nelson is my boyfriend or husband, heh. Sorry Charlie Spring! It's a hopeful book series, and when I read it and watched the series, i always felt like i was not alone in being who and how i am.
Have you ever attended a live concert? Which one was your first, and what made it memorable?
My first and only live concert I've consciously attended was a Gracie Abrams concert in Lisbon I successfully convinced my mom to let me go, and she went with me. I'm not and I never was Gracie's biggest fan, but I love her songs. It was memorable for me being a boy in a sea of girlies, for Gracie's delay, for Gracie's powerful voice and friendliness, and, of course, for the amount of people wearing bows (her fans are known for wearing bows to her concerts. sadly, I didn't know about that etiquette beforehand). "I Love You, I'm Sorry" was my favourite song and I sang it very... hearably.
What is your favorite movie, and why does it resonate with you?
My favourite movie would be "All About Lily Chou Chou" by Shunji Iwai. I like it for its emotional depth and for how it shows music being used as an escape from a problematic reality.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
My superpower would be knowing everything, so I'd be able to make a cure to cancer, and to know how to stop wars and how to help others. Does this count as cheating? The question didn't restrict anything though, heh.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time that others might find interesting?
Blogging and blogging. That's my answer.
Do you play any musical instruments? How did you get started, and what do you love about it?
I used to play the trumpet, but I gave up learning it due to genuine lack of interest and for the teacher being too hard on me. I play my voice as an instrument, to entertain myself. I didn't get started, I just do it. Karaoke 4 Life.

What is an item on your bucket list that you’ve recently checked off?
I don't have a bucket list, but I have a bingo sheet for 2025. I haven't checked off anything that recently, but I had the goal of reviving my blog for at least 8 weeks straight, and I think im doing a great job :D.
Have you ever gone scuba diving or tried any adventurous water sports?
No.
What was your favorite subject in high school, and how has it shaped your interests today?
I start classes on September 16, and today it's Sunday, the 14th. I cannot answer for high school, but, during middle school, my favourite subject was French. I don't think it really affected my interests today.
Do you have a favorite podcast that you listen to regularly? What draws you to it?
I don't really listen to podcasts.
What is your dream job, and what steps are you taking toward achieving it?
I would love being a singer, but, right now, I'm doing my best towards being a journalist. I feel like it fits me perfectly, and to share facts and know them is such a power! I must study hard and smart this year to ensure my average grade allows me to go to the best university I can possibly go to.
Have you ever met someone famous? Who was it, and what was the encounter like?
When I was at Futurália (a university-showcasing fair in Lisbon), I almost had the chance of meeting Mariana Mortágua, a known Portuguese politician who is currently in the Global Sumud Flotilla. I really like her, but, sadly, she didn't arrive at the time I was there. I let the Left Bloc's stand members tell her I told her she was a good person. Her solidarity with Palestine is hope.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor, and does it remind you of a particular memory?
My favourite ice cream flavour is cotton candy, and it reminds me of when I used to eat a specific ice cream as a kid. It was soft, lollipop-shaped, sweet, and colored in a swirl with blue and yellow. I miss it!
Can you speak any other languages besides English? How did you learn them?
Yes. I learnt Portuguese when I was a baby, and I have been learning Japanese since 2023. Japanese is currently at a conversational level. I learned French at school for 3 years, but I'll probably forget it soon, since, for the next 3 years, school will make me learn Spanish instead.
What is the most interesting place you’ve visited, and what made it stand out?
If the key phrase is "interesting experience"... I'd say my trip to Cala Rajada, in Mallorca, in Spain, fits it. Why? There were so many German people and even a German pub stadium or two there. I felt like I was in Spain, with a scotch of Germany.
Have you ever participated in a marathon or a significant physical challenge? What motivated you?
I have participated in vaivém tests at school... iykyk. (it's a thing where you have to run as much laps/rounds as you can in PE and get evaluated based on how many you did)

What is your favorite TV show, and what keeps you hooked?
The Heartstopper Netflix series. I already answered why I like Heartstopper before, so sh.
Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert? How does this influence your daily life?
I consider myself an ambivert, but I'm mostly an introvert. I love spending my time blogging, writing, listening to music... but I do go on walks with friends too. For me, social interactions may be draining if there's something in the person that messes with my values, while they may be enjoyable if we do things we like and I feel like they "care". Sometimes, I'm simply drained due to external stuff - like having my hair cut too short for my likings and having to adapt to it (i cried a bit in bed because it's like a part of me was taken away. i don't really give a fly now), and that draining, obviously, influences my will to interact.
What is a random fun fact about you that often surprises people?
My favourite subject from 7th grade until 9th grade was French. (most people I know hate it)
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them and how they became part of your family.
Yes! I have 3 cats. Shout-out to my mom for feeding them and cleaning their litter box every day! I really like cats. I sometimes meow at the cats living under the same roof as me, in an attempt to speak their language.
Avelã is the oldest one (3 years old? I don't know). She likes showing her love for people by "nuzzling" (rubbing her head on your arm when you pet her. it's like she's petting you back!). She's very cute, and treats the other two cats as her daughters, sometimes.
Aura is slightly younger than Amália, but they're around the same age, like one year and many months. They were born in the same month, but Aura is chubbier. She likes hunting moths and flying bugs, anything, really. She has a very characteristic personality, and she has zoomies. She hates being petted on the belly and she may "bite" (not hurtingly) if you do that, or if you pet her when she doesn't feel like it.
Amália is a sociable kitty, often welcoming visitors. Though older than Aura by some days, she's skinnier, likely due to health problems she used to have. She always tries to steal food from our plate, running to the kitchen's dining table whenever it's eating time. For that reason, the kitchen door is closed during meals. Aura is more polite regarding food, acknowledging she will get kicked out if she just tries to eat the food she wants, but can't, because it's for the humans to eat. Therefore, she waits patiently for authorization.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a long day?
Listening to music, journaling... I haven't had a "long day" for so long, so I can't really answer.
Have you ever started a blog or considered starting one? What topics would you cover?
*cough cough* I'm currently writing in a blog. I'd cover things related to things that I find important to share, such as Palestine, myself, LGBTQIA+ rights, human rights, empathy, etc... Or just texts conveying my feelings. I'm free.
What causes or charities are you passionate about, and why?
I'm passionate about human rights, and, though I'd love having the time to care and learn about every single issue, it just isn't doable, so I dedicate most of my cause-related efforts to supporting Palestine and showing how much I'm against genocide.
If empathy is a cause, then I'm for it. I'm against discrimination, and I encouraged my class to do stuff against it in 9th grade. It was a success, for the most part.
Do you have a favourite quote or mantra that inspires you?
Something along the lines of this quote by Desmond Tutu:
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
What is your favourite holiday, and how do you like to celebrate it?
I don't have a favourite holiday.
Have you ever tried learning a musical instrument? Which one, and what sparked your interest?
Besides trumpet, I've tried learning guitar, but I didn't get the hang of it. It's like my hands just didn't fit where they had to be. I've tried learning piano too, and I know the basics, but I don't use my time towards learning it.

Fun Facts for Professional Settings (???)
What inspired you to pursue your current career path?
I was inspired to become a high school student by the government, who made it compulsory for me to go to school :00
Have you attended any networking events recently? What did you gain from them?
Honestly, no. Except if you count Futurália as a networking event, but that wasn't recent.
What is a professional achievement that you’re particularly proud of?
I'm proud of getting good grades and for having done a pro-empathy project in my class during 9th grade. I'm also proud for having done a solidary raffle, where i got about 50 euros if I recall correctly, most of which donated to Save The Children, and the rest to two cat shelters.
Do you have mentors who have significantly influenced your professional life?
The History teacher and the class director I had from seventh to ninth grade. The History teacher gave me platform for the pro-empathy project. She was a mother to the class, and she always sneaked comments, implicitly or not, regarding what she believed was related to what we were learning and had to be said. For example, affirming how the food situation is in Gaza (it's bad.). She has very similar values as I do, and I loved having her as teacher.
My class director impacted my life directly. During seventh grade, I was verbally bullied, and though I was too sensible at the time, bullying is still bullying. I didn't like being called a princess, having people trying to make me trip on their feet, none of it. I believe it stemed from when my first answer to "Are you gay?" was "I don't know". That was honest enough, and when asked next, a time when I was sure, I answered "No". If you want to know if someone is gay, please don't force them out of the closet, nor, obviously, judging them. You will know it if you need to.
Well, my class director? She handled the situation, somehow. I also told her about an other dude bothering me (saying "LGBT is trash" and "n*****" like dude, mind your business?), and she took care of it. Though many people I knew hated her Science classes, she was always nice, friendly, and there.
What skills are you currently working on improving, and why are they important to you?
My empathy and communication, because understanding how others think and clearly expressing myself are things I see as important.
Have you ever given a presentation or speech in front of a large audience? How did it go?
Yes. I and 4 other girls, during my empathy project in 9th grade, did a presentation against homophobia, with 4 classes watching us. It went well, for the most part. My ex-crush gave an anti-homophobia poster at the end, and, though I never got to talk with him, I felt accepted and relieved. If you're my ex-crush reading this, I'm sorry for the silence and avoidance.
What strategies do you use to stay organized and productive at work?
One of my main strategies is not listening to bass boosted music while studying, and doing homework. NB: paying attention in class and clearing doubts ASAP.
Do you prefer working in teams or tackling projects independently? What do you enjoy about your preference?
It depends on the project, but I often prefer tackling projects in a team because the team members can help each other and use less time for a project, since each of the team members does a part.
What professional development resources do you recommend to others in your field?
For fellow students in Portugal, I recommend Escola Virtual, Estudo em Casa and Toda Matéria; and online flashcards software, for learning languages. Also, you can find a lot of stuff on YouTube.
Have you ever considered working abroad? If so, where and why?
What's up with the work questions, man? I've considered going to university in Finland, because, since I'm a EEA citizen, going to university there (in general) is FREE!!! YAYYYY

Floptropican memes tend to make me grin! Jiafei😍😍😍
Have you ever pulled off an epic prank? What happened, and how did people react?
I remember renting an international number and having 2 phones. In one, I was at a call with a Russian friend, and in the other, with a Portuguese friend. The Portuguese friend and Russian friend always heard each other, however, unbeknownst to the Portuguese friend, the other friend was, likewise, Portuguese. Playing Roblox while on call with a friend while faking having a Russian friend at home? It was EPIK
Do you have a go-to karaoke song? What makes it your top choice?
I don't have a go-to karaoke song. I sing what I want to sing.
What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever tried, and would you eat it again?
I have tried Popin' Cookin' DIY food. I loved it!! I'd eat it again, for sure. It's not really "weird", but considering it's powder-made food, you could say so.
If you could travel back in time, which era would you visit, and why?
I would visit 2020, because I miss quarantine, and when calling stuff "cringe" wasn't something so prominent as it is right now. I feel people were more authentic at that time, and with many caring about LGBTQIA+ rights and BLM at the time, I miss it, I really do.
Which fictional character do you relate to the most, and what qualities do you share?
I relate to Charlie Spring, from Heartstopper, the most. He's gay too, he was mistreated for being gay too, he also has a bisexual best friend (in his case, boyfriend), and he also manages what he eats - however, he has an eating disorder, something I don't. There's a limit to managing food.
Have you ever binge-watched a TV show in one sitting? Which one, and what made it captivating?
In one sitting? Nope. But I've binge-watched Stranger Things and Heartstopper. I was captivated by the need to know what would happen next.
What is your favourite board game or video game, and why do you enjoy it?
My favourite game would be... Just Dance, I guess? I like dancing while getting the joy of burning calories.
Do you collect anything unique? How did you start your collection?
Postage stamps. I started when, when receiving letters from Japan, noticing the beauty of the stamps, and decided to keep all stamps from letters I receive, from Japan or not, from then on.
What was your favourite toy or game during your childhood?
Roblox or Animal Jam. I am a son of the internet.

Reflecting on Personal Growth ^0^
What is a challenge you’ve overcome that you’re proud of?
The fear of others judging who I am. Now I don't really care.
How do you handle stress or pressure in your personal and professional life?
I allow myself to feel emotions, and do my best to get good grades. It's overwhelming to think about the pressure to have good grades, and that my future depends on them, so I just... feel and do.
What is a life lesson you’ve learned in the past year that has had a significant impact on you?
Avoiding a situation or avoiding talking with someone won't solve anything.
Have you ever taken a significant risk? What was it, and what did you learn from the experience?
I had a Protestant Christian friend. He was an on and off homophobic. While I was his friend, we... were friends, and, probably inspired on me learning Japanese, he started learning Mandarin. In a postcard to him, written fully in Mandarin (translated, I don't speak it), I begged him not to translate it. Why? I signed it off with "from your gay best friend" or something along the lines of the that, the only relevant thing was it included my sexual orientation. What did he do? He thought he was being insulted, and in fear of being insulted, he went translate it against my will. He found out I was gay.
He was nice after, then homophobic and saying "LGBT is trash" and on, I don't get it. He has something going on with his mind, for sure.
What motivates you to pursue your goals and dreams?
My mind.
Do you have a personal mission statement or set of core values that guide your decisions?
Well, empathy and respect, I guess.
How do you define success for yourself?
Living in a comfortable house with food and all basic needs fulfilled and being recognized for my doings. Also, being my most authentic self.
What is your biggest fear, and how are you working to overcome it?
My biggest fear would be the fear of not doing what I could have done, so I try to do what I can.
What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?
I'm personally proud of getting 3 groups in ninth grade, in my class, to present against racism, homophobia, and sexism. It was lovely.
How do you approach personal development and self-improvement?
I try to be more consistent every day, and I do my best to be self-aware.
My mind.

Unique and Unexpected Fun Facts O_O
Have you ever won a contest or raffle? What did you win, and how did it happen?
I have won, with a best buddy, a History knowledge contest in ninth grade. Yay!
Do you have a favourite quote from a book or movie that you often think about?
I don't.
What is the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done, and how did it turn out?
A large amount of things is spontaneous, so... maybe me, today, when asked by a guy in my class "what way I swang", I just said "I'm gay :p" and I got answered with "respect" and worry about me crushing on them. After clearing their worries, they seemed to still be welcoming.
(Context: new class, and they didn't know nothing about me, nor me about them, before PE (except for a specific dude)
On the next class, during class election, I got elected as class president with a whopping
26 votes out of 29! thank you to everyone who voted!! I really didn't expect it, and will do my best.
Have you ever performed on stage or been part of a theatrical production?
Yep! I was cast for a 3 lines role on a school play last year. I loved every second of acting as a school assistant who entered class with a boy who ran away or something, while I was accused of staring at a hot woman at a café. Welp!
What is something on your bucket list that might surprise people?
Experiencing an earthquake. People tend to get surprised when I say "I want to live through a tiny earthquake :D". A perfect earthquake would be magnitude 4~5!
Do you have any unusual phobias or fears? How do you cope with them?
The fear of people thinking I am in love with them. I don't really cope with it, but I learned how to praise people and not sound weird some days ago. Praising what the person actually had a choice on is chef's kiss.
What is the strangest job you’ve ever had, and what did you learn from it?
I was a Kitchen Leader at Pastriez, Roblox. I learned that spending large amount of time on a virtual café is unfulfilling.
Have you ever participated in an endurance event or challenge? What motivated you?
Vaivém tests. My grade and proving my physical abilities motivated me.
Do you have any quirky collections or hobbies that others find interesting?
What is a unique skill you possess that might intrigue others?
My skill of looking at others for a socially acceptable time.

Writing, calling a friend... blogging... surfing the web... Yep. Since I'd have no plans, I'd find something to do.
