Hello, I'm BluePuffin!!
Today I’m going to share 3 poems I wrote and a poll that will define the poem of the month. This time, the song recommendations are:
“The Glue Song” is a song by the Filipino-born beabadoobee that, as the title indicates, shows how she’s “glued” to someone. The singer talks thoroughly about how she feels about that someone, showing she’s surprised by how that someone is, surprised by how she even found that someone in the first place, and revealing how she loves that someone. The singer showcased many aspects of the Filipino culture in the music video.
Moving on, “prom dress”, by mxmtoon, is a song mirroring her sadness, how her expectations aren’t met, and how she’s seemingly unable to ever ask for help; specially when she was in high school. She referenced that, since she wasn’t as social as normal, she came off as cold to many.
It seems she expected prom to be like she saw on the movies, a wholesome experience of cats and rainbows, when, for her, it really wasn’t, she even said she cried on while wearing her prom dress. She thought that maybe, if crying was the contest, she’d be prom queen, which indicated she was really sad and how prom wasn’t really a happy experience. For short, this song retrospects her introverted high school experience and feeling like it wasn’t what it once could’ve been.
Both songs could be linked to high school years, though the second song more obviously. I believe the first song could also be connected to high school since falling in love starts being common during teenhood, which occurs mostly during high school years. Though that may be similar, the songs represent a largely different reality: one which shows how someone reciprocatedly loves someone and the other shows how they’re not really social at all and aren’t happy with the situation they’re in.
dear dandelion,
dandelion, you're on spotlight
we want to see you shine tonight
not “shine”, but you know what I mean
it’s June, you know you're the queen
puff yourself so I can blow and wish
for a good future, vibes are yellowish
thousand trucks are crossing the bridge
may empathy fulfill one's wish
there's no need to hide from the rain
it is here to help you grow and grow
trust me: you will it all sustain,
remember, the pain will go.
you have the sun, you have the rain
where’s your reason to feel pain?
if something hurts, don't feel afraid
the trucks are carrying your aid
the eating bugs will disappear
may the sky or not be clear
soon the ladybirds are here
to help you, dandelion dear
ending are June's weeks
dandelions no more on peak
and thought you might die,
and though you will die,
you gave all you had to supply.

I wanted to write something related to the countryside or flowers, so I chose dandelions and wrote a poem as if I was speaking to one. The poem is mainly meant to give hope, and though not obvious, I used “trucks” initially to refer to the aid trucks coming in Gaza to alleviate the suffering of Gazans, thus the trucks symbolising hope. I also meant to make clear that we should embrace both the good things and the bad things in your life.
heavenly missed call
sat outside the building block
hearing kiddos, they do talk
my tiny radio once was on my lap
now it’s not, i kept it back
took my binder out my backpack
wrote a diary entry foreignly
heard a phone ringing 2 steps apart
the ringtone sounds heavenly
no one picks up the phone
i feel like i’m at the gates
i’m actually half alone
i forgot today’s date
won’t lie, i’m not religious
but i feel like i’m in heaven
can i call this prodigious?
moving on to a question
if the call isn’t picked up
as there’s no one nearby
seems someone had their hopes up
hoping to get a reply
i feel really sorry for you
though not if you a scammer
i feel really sorry for you
was your call ever returned?

This poem recalls a time when I was at school, in front of a “building block”. I heard some younger people talk, though they went somewhere else after, if I recall correctly. Then, I would’ve listened to the radio on my mini radio and stopped after a while. Then, I started writing a diary entry in a paper sheet in a paper ring binder until I heard a phone ringing. No one picked up. It ringed for some time, and the ringtone was somehow heavenly. I drew and wrote something about it on the paper sheet. The poem focuses on the call, its sound, and the way it was never picked up.
What I called a “building block” is a part of a school where some classes are teached, while other classes have lessons somewhere else. Like, Class A and B have most lessons in building block A while Class C and D have most lessons in building B, same school.
just some nonsense um
walking human-laid pavement
the world is big such an amazement
i don’t know what i even mean
i don’t know what it’ll ever mean
it started, a small idea
now smaller can’t u see clear
i feel the gentle breeze of the wind
hitting my skin
i feel the gentle breeze of the wind
hitting my skin
something of a quiet nature
of that akin
sat on a chair typing on a digital keyboard
strings and strings of word word on word
what does this that even mean
walked some thousand steps today
they're gone what should i even say
Written by me, July 25.
The poem is meant to convey nonsense, still with some meaning behind it though. (u get 4 gewblios for reading this one poem)
